What MoA Is
The Metrology of the Abstract (MoA) is an emerging metrological discipline. It extends principles proven in physical metrology — standards, traceability, uncertainty, calibration, continuous correction — into the abstract domain.
Physical metrology asks how well an instrument measures length, mass, time, or temperature.
MoA asks:
How well does this conceptual instrument fulfill its intended purpose while remaining aligned with reality?
Conceptual instruments include concepts, definitions, mechanisms, models, classifications, taxonomies, and — where the work demands it — policies, institutions, and knowledge systems treated as measurable structures, not as finished ideology.
We are not a brand. We are not “a website that will be complete someday.” We are a metrology system: standards, procedures, reports, recommendations, and instruments under continuous development and calibration cycles. A cycle that confirms an instrument needs no change is a success. “Never done” describes the checking, not endless rewriting for its own sake. Positions are stated honestly; that honesty is discipline, not apology.

Mission
Improve the quality, traceability, calibration, and continuous correction of abstract conceptual instruments.
Concepts drift. Definitions overload. Classifications lose predictive power. Institutions accumulate unexamined uncertainty. Language and knowledge change.
Calibration keeps instruments aligned to intended purpose while preserving identity. MoA does not absorb the domains it measures. It measures, documents, reports, and recommends. Domain authorities decide what to adopt.
Governance note: Lab rules and standing paths apply to certificates issued on an MoA lab path. Independent adoption of public methods is optional and is not MoA endorsement unless a certificate says so.
Core Principle
Abstracts are instruments.
Abstract instruments must themselves be calibrated before they can reliably calibrate other abstract instruments.
Every calibrated abstract instrument becomes part of a growing traceability chain used to measure, evaluate, construct, and calibrate future abstract instruments.

Implementations
MoA is domain-neutral. Any serious group may adopt, extend, or challenge its methods. No single project owns the discipline.
Continuously Calibrated Dictionary
A primary public range for MoA: definitions treated as conceptual instruments — mechanism, drift, uncertainty, standing, and trail — not as static authority entries.
The Sovereign Games
Primary sandbox for human-systems work: diagnostic patterns, builder practices, and governance under incentive pressure. TSG stress-tests MoA methods against conflict and drift.
TSG is not MoA; MoA is not a rebrand of TSG. Shared discipline; different measurement field.
Other domains — professional knowledge bases, scientific ontologies, legal or medical conceptual instruments, institutional glossaries — may apply the same posture: measure and recommend; do not pretend to govern the domain.
What MoA Produces
- Standards and procedures — how calibration is run and what counts as a serious pass
- Conceptual instruments — including drift diagnostics and related tools
- Calibration reports — inspectable measurement of a stated instrument
- Calibration recommendations — advisory only; adoption stays with domain authority
- Visible calibration debt — known gaps as honest markers, not defects of “polish”
- Implementation sites — dictionary, sandboxes, and independent cells
A conclusion without a traceable report is not sufficient MoA calibration.
Transparency
MoA publishes design sketches, calibration history, debt, and process — not only polished conclusions. The path is part of the product. Earlier sketches remain evidence when superseded.
Hard use under declared method is expected. Soft use that never risks a floor teaches little.
Workbenches may use wikis and other tools as calibration infrastructure. Success is not measured by encyclopedia completeness. Success is instrument fitness: purpose, mechanism, boundaries, standing, and trail — under real calibration cycles, including “checked, no change needed.”
Contributing
Serious contributors are welcome: replication, counterexamples, competing records, proposed standards, and careful correction. Passive agreement is cheap. Survived challenge is not.
Independent MoA-style work is a feature. Demonstrate competence on instruments and trails — not on permission or brand.
If something is unclear or wrong, that is data.
Measure abstract instruments. Declare standing. Keep checking.
We do not replace domains. We calibrate conceptual instruments used within them.
